This class will be graduating pre-kindergarten and entering Kindergarten as a group. The four-and five-year old children in this group are independent, energetic, enthusiastic and imaginative. They enjoy planning and discussing who will do what, when playing in groups. They especially enjoy dramatic play. They are often times impatient and silly, self-confident and proud of their accomplishments. They demonstrate a willingness to try new adventures yet cannot quite estimate their own abilities accurately.
We took all of these characteristics as well as the most up to date research on learning styles and brain development into consideration when we plan with our curriculum. Our Sophisticated Scholars students enjoy a plethora of learning experiences that are designed and implemented with the whole child in mind. We pay particular attention to each child’s developmental abilities and gauge our activities to incorporate the various learning styles that are prevalent in the group.
The children enjoy activities that teach skills and concepts in math, science, language arts, social studies, music, fine and gross motor development, art, and social development. Assessment is on going and we work all year to achieve mastery of learning objectives outlines in our curriculum. Daily reports are a quick means of communication about each child’s day, but we begin to rely heavily on student communication with parents and a general board posting the daily goings on. Sophisticated Scholars quickly blossom into Kindergarten students in the blink of an eye. Through our program they are well prepared for what lies ahead.
